Stuck In a Rut?

Is every day beginning to be the same as the day before?

Is today Wednesday or Thursday?

By the way, what’s the date today?

Plan to do the same today as you did yesterday…whatever that was?

Getting older brings a lot of changes to your routine. Children start their own families. Maybe accepting job opportunities that moves them to a different state.

Retirement has its own issues. Daily social contact with familiar faces is gone. Any purpose that motivated you to perform at work is history.

Perhaps you have moved yourself. Your new neighbors are strangers. Or maybe they are just strange neighbors…..

Then there is simply the possibility that close relatives or maybe even your spouse are no longer here.

Any of these can leave you in a rut but there are many ways to escape. When your car is stuck you can either get pushed or pulled or until you make it out. It can work the same for you. One thing each of these require is motion. It can be generated from without or within. If you are stuck, try these solutions.

Get pushed out.                   This happens when there is an outside force moving you. It may be out of necessity. Finances may be dwindling.  The doctor said you need to lose weight. Something unpleasant, whatever it may be, needs to be dealt with to put you in a better position. Staying in that situation will only make it worse.

Get pulled out.                  This is when you decide to take action on your own. You simply want more from life. Goals are set. To-do lists are made. Classes are signed up for. The idea is to change because you want to, not because you are forced. Your desires, and the actions you take to accomplish them, pull you out  of your rut.

To round it off:

You get pushed out when you need something.

You get pulled out when you desire something.
